Description

Up for auction is a rare, large-scale antique ecclesiastical floor statue of the Archangel Michael defeating Lucifer, produced by the prestigious Daprato Statuary Company (Chicago - New York). Founded in 1860, Daprato is legendary for its exceptional church art and high-quality plaster/composition casting.

This commanding piece stands approximately 60 inches (5 feet) tall to the highest wingtip and features the maker's authentic inset metal plaque on the base. It boasts beautiful historical craftsmanship, from the deeply layered feathers of the expansive wings to the detailed scale armor and dramatic pose.

Condition Report (Important - Salvage/Project Piece)

This antique church statue is being sold in as-is, distressed condition, perfect for collectors who love the authentic cathedral-salvage look, or for a professional restoration project:

Missing Elements: Both arms have been broken off and are completely missing (the left arm at the shoulder joint, the right arm at the mid-forearm).

Surface Condition: Features heavy, authentic age distressed wear. There is significant paint chipping, flaking, and scaling across the entire body, face, and base, revealing the white composition casting underneath.

Structural Notes: The massive wings show paint crazing but remain securely attached. The base has heavy chipping and paint loss along the lower perimeter, surrounding the original Daprato maker's mark.
